义侠[大刀王五]锄强扶弱一刀平天下。知己难求，能舍身为友的人更是廖若晨星。因此之故，清人王五（吴卓羲）与课嗣同（黄宗泽）的友谊一直为后人所乐道。五一向视读圣贤书为苦事，给母亲王阮心怡（邵美琪）送入武学堂后才学会脚踏实地。五在的学堂认识了为逃婚而进学堂的同。同才情洋溢，与五一文一武，惺惺相惜。他俩在教官陈道扬（刘松仁）熏陶下，不但武艺精进，更培养了行侠仗义的武德，三人建立起亦师亦友的关系，为避开妻子李闰（杨怡）而入学堂的同在学堂里遇上了卓兰格格（杨思琦），可惜兰只喜欢五。离开学堂后，五在扬在协助下重开亡父的顺源镖局，同则推行改革以望救国救国。同得罪了权贵荣禄，遭其打压。同失意于官场，蓦然回首，才发觉闰一直不舍不弃，夫妻二人自此同为理想而奋斗。同和五各有各要走的路，然而二人在年少时建立起来的友谊始终未变。多年以后，百日维新政变，同被擒，五舍命相救……

　　乐琦（郭羡妮 饰）是香港警察保安科的督查，她美貌、身手、智慧并重，屡屡与恐怖分子打交道。今次，面对恐怖分子的炸弹勒索，她亲自部署了围剿行动，但在行动中汽车经纪坚强恰巧路过，使得行动受阻，最终虽然拘捕了恐怖分子头目和救回了坚强，但部分恐怖分子却成功逃脱了，保安科更是损兵折将。为了补充力量，同样身手不凡的美女警官丽花（佘诗曼 饰）和宝儿（杨思琦 饰）被调往了保安科，三人在随后的交往中建立了深厚的友谊。一日，坚强在将新车交付客户时又遇上了恐怖分子炸弹袭击，更因丽花想帮他解释越帮越忙而遭到车行解雇。正好女友此时又抛弃了他，银行又收回了他供的楼房，坚强的人生跌到了最低点，更视丽花为命中克星。乐琦觉得不能再让这些恐怖分子继续逍遥在外，于是决定冒一次险……
